Highlights of the 22/23 season included her performance of K.A. Hartmann’s “Concerto funebre” with the Kammerakademie of the Staatskapelle Halle, along with invitations to prestigious festivals like the Zermatt Festival at the Berlin Philharmonie and the IMS & OCM Prussia Cove.
At the Berbersee Festival in 2023, she collaborated with artists such as Sophia Jaffé, Gregor Sigl, and Jens-Peter Maintz. Since December 2023, she has been a scholarship recipient at the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker, regularly performing with the orchestra in major concert halls across Germany and abroad, mentored by Daishin Kashimoto, the first concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
In January 2024, she showcased Sibelius’ Violin Concerto several times with the orchestra, followed by her debut in July at the main hall of the Konzerthaus Berlin with Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor. Johanna began her violin studies at the age of five, receiving initial lessons from Hartmut Opolka and Hans-Hagen Menz at the conservatory in Halle (Saale), before continuing her education at the Schloss Belvedere music high school in Weimar under Anne-Kathrin Lindig.
In 2017, she commenced her studies at the Berlin University of the Arts with Nora Chastain, advancing to the Master’s program in spring 2023. She broadened her horizons through chamber music studies with the Arion Piano Trio, led by Dirk Mommertz of the Fauré Quartet, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, and spent time abroad at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in Rainer Küchl’s class, the former first concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.g
Johanna is a prize winner of the International Ysaÿe Competition in Liège, Belgium, and has earned accolades in several ensembles, ranging from piano trio to string sextet, at competitions such as the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition and the Alice Samter Foundation Chamber Music Competition.
As an “active and curious student who seizes every opportunity for growth,” according to Nora Chastain, she has participated in masterclasses with prominent figures like Igor Ozim, Lisa Batiashvili, Eberhard Feltz, Kolja Blacher, Zakhar Bron, Ana Chumachenco, and Gerhard Schulz.
During her bachelor’s degree, she held a temporary position as deputy concertmaster of the Komische Oper Berlin and has since served as concertmaster for various orchestras, including the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Zermatt Festival Orchestra. Recently, she was appointed concertmaster of the Kammerakademie Potsdam and the Bregenz Festival.
Johanna has received support from the Jütting Foundation and is backed by the Paul Hindemith Society in Berlin, the Friends of Young Musicians Berlin, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. She performs on a J.B. Vuillaume violin from Paris, crafted in 1862, which is generously provided to her.
